Siurell
The Siurell is a little figurine typical from Mallorca made out of clay and painted white with green and red lines. It usually depicts standing peasants or demons with a little whistle at the back, from which it gets its name — in Mallorquin siular means to whistle. Its origin is unknown but it is believed to have arrived on the island with the Ancient Sea cultures such as the Phoenicians. This domestic object has always been related to good luck and abundance.
Fairy Tales is an itinerant group exhibition that has also crossed the seas as it’s already been shown in Antwerp, Seoul and Tokyo. It is a collaborative project where the artists act also as curators and adapt the exhibition to each iteration. This versatility allows them to not only include new artists with each exhibition but also to produce site-specific editions as well as to explore the exhibition as a medium. In our case here at galería Fermay the siurell edition is intended to express mutual support and friendship.
