Nine New Paintings is the second exhibition in our “Nine New…” series. For this iteration, BURO_ASAP, an artist-run space, invites nine painters from different generations and backgrounds to present new or previously un-exhibited works. The exhibition captures the immediacy of each artist’s current practice, offering an unfiltered view into their working methodologies.

By reaching directly into the artist’s toolbox, the exhibition functions as a series of self-curated presentations. Rather than imposing a unifying theme, each participant is guided by their own systems, concerns, and present moment of production. The selection of artists is shaped by BURO_ASAP’s position as an artist-run space and studio, where proximity to practice and peer-exchange inform curatorial decisions. This context allows generational and experiential differences to coexist without being flattened into a single narrative.

Together, the nine paintings form a slate of newness without an ambition toward trendiness. While the exhibition does not seek to interrogate painting as a medium, it positions itself through its exclusive focus on painting, asking what the medium can do when presented outside institutional or commercial frameworks.

Participating artists:

Lena Bos, Lionel Dury, Chris Gillis, David Hominal, Moshekwa Langa, Haevan Lee, Daniel Mullen, Sven Rayen, and Yukino Yamanaka.
